My Connection to Horses
Growing up, I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend an abundant amount of time with horses. My grandmother lived on a ranch that grew to be my sacred place, and her love for these majestic animals transcended into my life. She taught me how to approach horses, how to touch horses, how to sit on them, how to gather them, how to understand their fear and how to build their trust, and how to be more gentle. Learning more about horses spurred and inspired curiosity, which led to a deep admiration for them. My grandmother always encouraged me, claiming that I could learn more from animals than I could from people. Those memories are some that I hold near and dear, remembering the days I spent helping her tend to the animals bring me back to a much simpler time.
Horses, to me, are spiritual and empathetic creatures and can tell how you're feeling - the good and the bad. Their intelligence is more deeply connected with nature, essentially a bridge into a deeply wild and intuitive perspective. It is beautiful and nothing short of brilliant.
Initially, I thought I would have to retire and buy a ranch before I got to ride on a regular basis again. My busy shedule includes running a business and two kids in high school, so I never imagined finding the time. In perfect timing, I happened to stumble upon Sullivan Canyon Preservation Association (SCPA) on one of my long walks through the canyon. It is a beautiful and stunning barn with a warm community that I can envision myself connecting with. I am overjoyed to be back in the saddle and looking forward to spending my days at SCPA! Stay tuned, there is most definitely more to come on this journey!
Some of my favorite riding destinations are: Aspen, Lanai, and Soho Farmhouse.
While I look forward to the day where my family and I have our own ranch to keep all of the horses and animals I could ever dream of, I am thanking my lucky stars for giving me the opportunity to love these animals a little closer to home.
