My Summer Staples: 2021 Edition

As the weather starts to heat up and things return back to somewhat of a normal state, I will be basking in all of the positive glory that these summer months will bring. After being inside for over a year, I can’t wait to be out and about once again with all of my loved ones. I’m also eager to showcase what I have been loving recently, especially when it comes to fashion and makeup.

Usually when the weather shifts from the cool springtime months to the warmer days of summer, I try and switch out my usual routines and opt for outfits and skincare that is as effortless and dreamy as a soft summer’s breeze.

Listed below are a few of my favorite staples for summer that include some tried and true products as well as some new game changers that I cannot live without!

Fashion

Bright, Flowy Dresses

When the temperature starts to climb, I try and ditch the thought of wearing tight pants at all costs. I love a good jean moment, but when it’s 90 degrees outside, it may be time to opt for something a little more breathable and airy. I usually don unique dresses or skirts during the summer months that are as fun as they are comfortable.

Puffy Sleeves

The puffy sleeve is everywhere this year, and I for one am here for it! Puffy sleeved dresses/blouses always feel classic and elegant— it makes me feel extra bougie and that is how I always want to feel. This trend can be both dressed up or down, and I usually wear mine underneath a pair of cotton overalls or with a stylish skirt for a fun night out look. If there is one 2021 trend you’ll see me wearing an excessive amount of times, it’s this one!

Elevated Bathing Suit

One of the many reasons summer is one of my favorite seasons is because it allows me to be at the beach as much as I want. I love any and all bodies of water and swimming is extremely therapeutic to me. Whether I am lounging with a cocktail in hand or going for a morning swim, I always make sure that my swim attire is as elevated and elegant as I am. I normally wear all black pieces because they are the easiest to accessorize with, but I have recently been playing around with a few different prints and patterns that scream “summer”!

Stand-Out Hats

A great way to shield yourself from the unforgiving summer sun is to wear a wide-brimmed hat. I am quite the hat snob and have ones that go with my outfits for every season of the year. Hats are versatile, protect you from any weather condition, and are extremely elegant and posh. If you don’t already, I highly suggest investing in a good cowboy hat, especially if it is from Nick Fouquet.

Makeup and Skincare

Tinted Moisturizer

I haven’t worn a full face makeup look in quit some time. While there are a number of excellent foundations out there, my skin is extra hydrated during the warmer months and has trouble holding onto thick face makeup. To combat this, I have recently switched from foundation to tinted moisturizer which has truly been a Godsend for my skin. Tinted moisturizers are the masters at making your skin look dewy and fresh while also allowing it to breath with what feels like little to no product. I have a few in rotation right now, but my two go-to’s are either the Laura Mercier Natural Skin Perfector or the ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint.

Bronzer and Highlight Duo

June through September are usually the busiest months for me especially with the amount of traveling I do. I always try stay organized and minimize as much packing as possible. To maximize my packing space for other important items (like shoes and hats!), my toiletries bag is kept to a small compact size. I have really gotten into makeup duos that are quick to apply and easy to store. I want to be as dewy and bronzed as I can throughout summertime, and having my makeup compact with me makes it easy to do quick touchups while I’m on the go.

Makeup Blotting Wipes

This is an obvious staple for many reasons! Summer’s in LA get excruciatingly hot and humid, and the least of your worries is trying to keep your makeup from running off. I always keep a couple pairs of blotting wipes in my purse in case I need to blot the day away.

Sunscreen

You cannot have a successful summer if you are sunburnt. Sunscreen is pivotal in keeping your skin youthful and protected in any month. I have been wearing sunscreen since I was in high school and I feel naked if I forget to put it on. If there is any product you absolutely need in your skincare cabinet, it’s this. Remember to always use sunscreen on your face when you are going outside, even if it is just for a little bit.
